THE 2ND STREET BENCH BATTLE

It all began with a viewpoint lacking a bench. Then came a bench, featuring cupholders, and a skyline museum on the back. 11 months passed, and then came a couple city trucks, and a crew of workers. Gone went the bench. Then came another bench, this time made from salvaged fence boards from a nearby home demolition. 28 days passed, then came the city trucks and crews. Then came the third bench, this time adorning new City of Calgary branding, ensuring its safety and security. For now the third edition remains in place, with dozens of daily users and encounters. The third edition lasted until June 2025, when it was subsequently replaced by a beautiful new blue metal bench, that only lasted 3 days before the city removed.
